Volume 16, Issue 6 (2026) of the Journal of International Students features 28 authors across 10 scholarly articles, representing universities and research institutions from multiple countries and regions engaged in the study of international education and migration.
This issue presents a timely and critical examination of immigration policies and their profound influence on international students’ educational journeys. The volume brings together interdisciplinary scholarship that explores how international students navigate complex immigration regimes, institutional structures, and social environments across global higher education systems. The articles address a range of pressing topics, including immigration policy shifts in Canada and Australia, migration governance within higher education institutions, and structural barriers faced by international graduates. Contributors also examine critical dimensions of the international student experience, such as mental health and well-being, financial stability, social inclusion, and the broader life cycle of international students from recruitment to post-study pathways. Several studies foreground underrepresented perspectives, highlighting the experiences of Asian students, Nepali mobility patterns, Black Caribbean and South and Southeast Asian graduates navigating immigration systems, and asylum narratives within European migration contexts. The issue also examines emerging developments, including artificial intelligence readiness in language teacher education programs in the Global South.
