This study investigates the communication hurdles that international students face in academic environments filled with ongoing interactions. Using Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) as a guide, it highlights the experiences of eleven international students along with the strategies they employ to overcome these challenges. The data were analysed thematically, classifying communication approaches based on CAT's concepts of convergence and divergence. The results show that international students struggle with language proficiency, varied cultural expectations, and concerns regarding cultural competence and inclusivity. Participants shared their techniques, such as active listening, note-taking, expanding their vocabulary, and utilizing language-learning resources effectively. The study wraps up with suggestions based on participant feedback, including promoting inclusive interaction practices and creating an intercultural training program.
