This qualitative study explored the perceived efficacy of Dalipawen (Alstonia scholaris) as an herbal medicine among residents of Bitalag, Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines. It developed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials promoting responsible use of herbal medicine. Using a descriptive qualitative design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with purposively selected participants with prior experience using Dalipawen. Thematic analysis revealed that participants perceived Dalipawen as beneficial for respiratory conditions, body pain, urinary tract infections, and other minor illnesses. Continued use was influenced by perceived effectiveness, affordability, accessibility, and cultural familiarity rooted in indigenous medicinal practices. The findings support the Health Belief Model and Cultural Competence Theory in explaining traditional health behaviors. An IEC brochure evaluated by experts received a satisfactory rating for its educational value and cultural relevance. The findings highlight the importance of preserving indigenous medicinal knowledge while promoting culturally responsive health education.
