Author Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to carefully review the journal's Aims & Scope and submit work that marks a new and demonstrably significant advancement to the field. Authors are encouraged to review the criteria used to evaluate manuscripts in our double-anonymous peer-review process.

JIS is an open-access journal. There is NO Article Processing Charge (APC) fee to individual authors, and authors are allowed to self-archive their work. 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Preventive Medicine and Population Health

Focuses on disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiology, vaccination strategies, chronic disease prevention, health equity, and global and community health initiatives.

Clinical Medicine and Translational Health Sciences

Includes clinical research, translational biomedical science, therapeutic innovation, precision medicine, critical care, primary care, and advances that bridge laboratory discovery and clinical application.

Behavioral, Mental, and Addiction Health

Covers mental health research, addiction medicine, neurobehavioral health, psychosocial determinants of health, and behavioral interventions aimed at improving individual and population outcomes.

Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences

Addresses environmental exposures, air quality, respiratory health, climate-related health risks, occupational hazards, and the health impacts of built and natural environments.

Health Systems, Policy, and Implementation Science

Encompasses healthcare delivery innovation, health policy research, implementation science, public health systems, global health governance, and strategies to translate evidence into practice.

Commentaries and Reports

  • Covers contemporary issues in health and medicine with a broad viewpoint.
  • Maximum words: 1,500
  • Up to 2 figures/tables
  • Maximum 10 references
