Statement on Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
The Journal of Innovation in Academia (JINA) and its publisher are committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, research integrity, and scholarly responsibility. The journal adheres to the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors, the COPE Code of Conduct for Publishers, and relevant ethical principles and guidelines established by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
JINA takes all forms of publication malpractice seriously. Plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate submission, authorship misconduct, and other forms of unethical academic practice are strictly prohibited. Authors are required to ensure that their manuscripts contain original work, are not under consideration by another journal, and appropriately acknowledge and attribute all sources and contributions.
The JINA upholds the following core principles in addressing ethical issues and publication misconduct:
- Prevention: JINA seeks to identify and prevent potential ethical concerns through editorial screening, similarity checks, and rigorous desk and peer-review processes.
- Fairness and Non-Discrimination: All ethical assessments and editorial decisions are made objectively, impartially, and solely on scholarly merit, without discrimination based on authorship, affiliation, nationality, gender, or other non-scholarly considerations.
- Transparency and Due Process: Where appropriate, relevant parties are informed of ethical concerns and provided a reasonable opportunity to clarify or respond.
- Consistency and Accountability: Ethical matters are addressed consistently in accordance with JINA policies and applicable COPE principles. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to uphold ethical standards and cooperate with legitimate investigations.
- Confidentiality: All manuscript content, peer-review reports, correspondence, and information are treated strictly confidential.
- Timeliness: Ethical concerns are addressed promptly and proportionately to protect authors, reviewers, editors, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
- Integrity of the Scholarly Record: Where necessary, JINA may issue corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or other appropriate editorial notices to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the published literature.
These principles apply to authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties involved in the publication process and are intended to ensure that JINA's editorial and publication practices remain ethical, transparent, fair, and consistent with international standards.
a) Duties of Editors and Copy Editors
Editors and copy editors are responsible for maintaining the academic quality, ethical standards, and integrity of the journal. Their responsibilities include:
- Editorial Decision-Making: Editors make decisions to accept, reject, or request revisions based on academic merit, originality, methodological rigor, clarity, relevance to the journal’s scope, and the recommendations of peer reviewers. Following desk review, suitable manuscripts are subjected to a confidential and appropriate peer-review process.
- Fair and Objective Review: Editors ensure that manuscripts are evaluated fairly, objectively, and without discrimination based on authors’ gender, race, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.
- Confidentiality: Editors and copy editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, peer-review reports, and related correspondence, sharing information only with individuals directly involved in the editorial process.
- Conflicts of Interest: Editors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where such conflicts exist. They must not use unpublished information or material from submitted manuscripts for personal research or benefit without the author’s written consent.
- Publication Ethics: Editors are responsible for ensuring that published research complies with recognised standards of research and publication ethics. Allegations of misconduct must be assessed objectively and supported by appropriate evidence before editorial action is taken.
- Corrections and Retractions: Editors must promptly issue corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
- Editorial Accountability: Editors are expected to uphold journal policies, contribute to the continuous improvement of editorial practices, participate in relevant editorial activities, and support initiatives that strengthen the journal’s quality, scope, and scholarly contribution.
